As per the demand we plan to add 150 more needy students for this programme. Naihati New Life Society plans to open two more Free Pre Primary Schools- at Amlamethi & Mathurakhanda, Sundarban,South 24 Parganas. This is one of the most important interventions engineered by us. In this pre-school project, the little children (First generation learner) are being dealt with care, concern and solicitude. Through the process of story-telling, drawing, painting, games, we try to foster the creative acumen of the students. Moreover we are trying to induct rudimentary academic inputs within them.

ADULT EDUCATION

The Government of India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development defines Adult Education as that which “aims at extending educational options to those adults, who have lost the opportunity and have crossed the age of formal education, but now feel a need for learning of any type, including, basic education (literacy), skill development (vocational education) and equivalency.”

The 2001 India Census pegged adult illiteracy at an astounding 34%, i.e. one-third of the total population over the age of 15, on an average. There is a notable disparity among men and women in the country: adult non-literates being 23.3% among males and 45.1% among females (almost double).

Illiteracy is a major roadblock to development, often resulting in the disempowerment of vulnerable communities. Illiterates are unable to read any signs, health warnings and obtain the benefit of government services and programs. They often fail to see the value of education for their own children resulting in perpetuation of the poverty cycle that afflict most illiterates. We are involved in conducting Adult Literacy Program (Barnadhara) in North 24 Parganas. Our well-educated teachers in NGO provide education to adults and make them capable of understanding the basics of every subject be it English, mathematics, geography and others.
